Music Exam
India represents one of the oldest civilizations on earth. India is admired as a cultural land where both classical music and dance is an integral part of the society since more than one thousand years. Music and dance were taught in Gurukuls, where a learner lived with the teacher and mastered the arts for years. In modern times with the transformation in socio-economic conditions, the system has changed a lot. In current times, like the western countries, music schools and music teachers train most learners. Music schools and private music teachers prepare students for music exams, reality shows along with imparting music lessons for fun and personal experience. In India, music lessons cover diverse genres. Students learn Indian Classical, Indian Traditional, Bollywood Vocal, Karnatic Classical, Regional music. The western music field is much smaller compared to the Indian music section. Learners mostly in the cities learn Piano, Guitar, Keyboard, Violin, Drum Kit and Western Vocal. Academic schools are encouraging music learning like never before. The new education policy in India stresses a lot on non-academic learning that includes music. There will be a tremendous rise in the requirement for properly trained music teachers. Music schools like Academy for Musical Excellence train music teachers for preschools and primary schools using the Kodaly philosophies. India now has its own international music examination board too. Musicea Arts and Culture Council is the only board in the world that offers syllabus for Indian music and western music.
As India was a British colony for two hundred years, music education and examination were fully controlled by them. Since independence in 1947, many sectors gradually developed and progressed in India but unfortunately, the western music exam is controlled by the British boards. The drawbacks are that all revenue generated from India goes to England. This is a direct loss towards tax collection by the Indian Government and the outflow of massive Indian currency is a direct loss towards Indian GDP. In current times, the entire world is looking at India. India should reverse from being an importer to become an exporter. The Prime Minister of India has appealed to create an Atmanirbhar Bharat. For music education and music exam, we can stand on our own feet. India’s international music examination board is doing the same. The online examination is helping the cause. Musicea Arts and Culture Council are currently offering music exams in several countries. The syllabus of Musicea is open and progressive. Teachers are the decision-makers and the board give a lot of weightage to the educators and also work for the benefits of teachers and students. Time has come to think about personal and national benefits. Time has come to break away from age-old traditions and embrace the new and progressive.
