EXAMINATION FAQ

1. What is the process of registration and examination?
The registration process is simple. The examination registration form is available on the website.
a. Deposit the examination fees in the Musicea bank account.
b. Fill up the examination registration form, attach the fees payment details and send.
c. After receiving the bank payment of examination fees, a correct and complete examination registration form, the registration process is over.
d. Issuance of the Admit Card follows successful registration.
e. Follow the EXAMINATION GUIDELINES for correction or amendment of the Admit Card.
f. The online examination candidate will send the filled Admit Card within seven days of receiving it. The physical examination candidate will bring the filled Admit Card to the examination centre.
g. Next, the examination session is on the date, time and venue (for a physical exam) mentioned on the Admit Card.
h. Examination Report Card and Certificate (for a passed candidate) issued after the examination.

2. Can I download music for my examination?
3. Can I use photocopied music for my examination?

A candidate should not use photocopies (other than for facilitating page turns) in examinations.
A photocopy is illegal and not permitted under the copyright act. A candidate should hand copies of their performance, to the examiner, together with their Admit Card.
Purchase music for the examination from the reputed publishers, sheet music dealers or the reputed digital platforms. Name of publishers are merely suggestions; other authoritative editions of the music will be equally acceptable. Digital sheet music should be presented at the examination with the front page (if any), along with the computer-generated invoice showing necessary details. It is important to note that not all music purchased/downloaded for free on the internet complies with international copyright laws.

4. Can I play my (or any other non-published) composition or arrangement for my examination?
Yes, you may. During registration, you have to submit the sheet music of the composition or arrangement for prior approval. After scrutiny, the council will intimate you. If the decision is YES, you may perform it. If the decision is NO, you need to choose a standard reputed published work.

5. My Admit Card has an error. What should I do?

6. I want to change my examination date and time. What should I do?

7. What happens when there is an act of God like a natural calamity?

8. If I arrive late at the examination centre?
Physical examination candidates should reach the examination venue fifteen minutes before the scheduled examination time. Online examination candidates should be seated in front of their online devices five minutes before the scheduled examination time. A candidate is marked absent, failing to appear for the examination in time. The examination fees are forfeited. The EXAMINATION GUIDELINES offer no provision for further request or appeal.

CANDIDATE FAQ

1. How should I prepare for the examination?
The syllabi of Musicea examinations aim at the comprehensive development of a candidate. Some elements are challenging to improve the standards of learning and performance. A candidate may choose from the unlimited reputed publishers and perform to their strengths and likings. A candidate needs to prepare for the examination well in advance to perform at their highest ability. The examination session is enjoyable in the company of a friendly, supportive and professional examiner. Balance the technically correct presentation and musicality. The examination provides a wide range of options. A diverse repertoire will enable an enjoyable performance. Perform in the way you will love to perform in a video or live concert. Candidates should enjoy the performance and deliver with confidence. Kindly read the EXAMINATION GUIDELINES for all related information.

2. Is it compulsory to learn staff notation for instrumental study?
Yes, for instrumental examinations like Guitar, Electronic Keyboard, Drum Kit, Violin, Piano, it is compulsory to use staff notation.
It is not mandatory to use staff notation for Bollywood Keyboard and Bollywood Guitar examination.

3. What should I do if I make a mistake?
While performing, do not worry about any slips or mistakes. They might happen. An examiner has enough experience to understand the difference between a slip and a mistake. A candidate should continue with the performance without stopping or feeling low. The candidate must continue playing or singing with the same confidence and musicality. Moving along is the key. Stopping and restarting is a substantial mistake and will result in more loss of marks.

4. Should I start my examination with technical exercise or pieces / songs?
Start the examination with the technical exercise. It allows a candidate to warm up before playing the pieces or songs. However, a candidate may select their preference. Always play to your strength.

5. Should I follow one book for examination?
Breaking from the century-old fixed idea of costly examination books with mostly non-popular music (Indian perspective), Musicea offers a new and open approach apt for 21st-century education. A candidate may buy a music sheet digitally or buy books of their own choice from reputed publishers. A candidate may learn from one or more books and sheet music before deciding on the repertoire. A candidate may choose from single or multiple sources, according to personal requirement, in consultation with an experienced guide or educator.

6. Do I need to carry my instrument for my examination?
Piano and Drum Kit candidates shall not carry any instrument. Other examination candidates need to bring their musical instruments and accessories, like a music stand, tuner, footrest, extra strings etc. However, you may consult with the examination centre and make prior arrangements according to your mutual agreements.
Electronic Keyboard and Bollywood Keyboard examination candidates should select a standard instrument that facilitates fast registration and setup. Candidates using tracks need to use stable, quality and secure gadgets. Examiner will not provide extra time for delays. Delay may impact the marks.

7. May my teacher tune my instrument?
Yes, till Grade 5, the teacher may tune the instrument. However, from Grade 6, a candidate should tune their musical instrument.

8. May I only perform songs or pieces for the examination?
Yes, the "Recital Examination" offers a candidate to present five (5) items. Kindly note, during registration, select the RECITAL option.

9. I download sheet music for my examination? May I use photocopy sheet music?
Photocopy of sheet music is unlawful as per the Copyright Act. A candidate may photocopy some pages only to avoid page-turning issues. Purchase the sheet music from reputed publishers, sheet music dealers or reputed digital publishers. Please note that the list of publishers with the prescribed pieces are to aid in locating standard sheet music and are merely suggestions; alternate reputed editions will be equally acceptable. A candidate should show the computer-generated invoice of the downloaded sheet music. It is important to note that not all music purchased or downloaded for free on the internet complies with international copyright laws. Physical examination candidates should hand over a copy of their performance to the examiner, together with their Admit Card. Online candidates should attach (email) their performance sheet music with the filled admit card.

10. May I have an accompanist during a vocal examination?
A candidate cannot self-accompany for vocal examination. The teacher or an accompanist should do the job (only one accompanist). Accompaniment may be on a piano, electronic keyboard, harmonium or guitar. Candidates may use electronic tabla or tanpura as extra accompanying instruments for Bollywood Vocal and Indian Traditional Vocal examinations. No use of acoustic tabla and tanpura. Candidates may use karaoke tracks and make proper arrangements in advance. Musicea recommends fixing an accompanist in advance and having a few practice sessions together before the examination.

INSTITUTION FAQ

1. Musicea syllabi are challenging and complex?
The syllabi of the Musicea examination aims at the progressive development of a candidate. The examination session is enjoyable. However, a candidate needs to prepare well in advance to perform at their highest ability. Candidates should appear for the examination under the guidance of a Musicea registered teacher or institute.

2. How often I can send examination candidates?
Musicea examinations take place throughout the year in both online and physical modes. A representative, institute or teacher may organise one or multiple examination sessions in a year. A candidate registers through their teacher, institute, or representative for the physical examination. A candidate may register on their own for Musicea online examination or through a Musicea affiliated teacher, institute or representative. 3. Can my students directly contact Musicea?
For Musicea physical examination, a candidate may register through a teacher, institute or representative. Musicea will not communicate with the candidate.
For Musicea online examination, a candidate may self-register. Barring the self-registered candidates, Musicea will not communicate with the candidate. All correspondence will only be through the proper channel.

4. Can I have my own examination centre?
